Birders (esp. central Iowa):

I was on tap to help lead the birding portion of a Bioblitz at the Whiterock
Conservancy lands on Friday evening, June 8, and Saturday morning, June 9. But
I’ve just learned we’re having an unexpected visit that weekend, from a
relative not seen for more than 15 years, and it’s the only time he can be
here. So I’ve had to beg out of my volunteer bioblitz birding for that
weekend, and the Whiterock Conservancy’s Land Manager has asked if I could find
someone to fill in.

The birding bioblitz leader will have a (probably) small group of volunteers to
go along, from 7-9 PM Friday evening & 9-11 AM on Saturday.
Overnight lodging will be available, and this would be a great opportunity to
bird some of the Whiterock Conservancy’s 4,500 acres just south of Coon Rapids,
in Guthrie County. I’ve birded there before, and there’s a great variety of
habitats, especially savanna woodlands and grasslands along the Raccoon River.

If you’d enjoy a fun weekend of birding at Whiterock, please respond to this
note ASAP, as they must soon update their list of volunteers. I will then
forward your contact information to Chris Troendel, Land Manager for the WR
Conservancy.

Thanks!
