About 4:30 Friday afternoon, I observed what appeared to be a yellow morph of a Downy Woodpecker. The bird was the size and had all the markings of a Downy, except: a yellow mark where a juvenal's red crown would be, the red patch on the back of the head (male) was yellow, and the distinctive white streak on the back was yellow. The yellow patches were bright yellow, very distinctive. Additionall, their may have been a yellow wash on the belly and the sides of the tail. Does anyone know of a morph of this type for Downy?
