Birders,

Last night (6/4) Kevin Murphy, Tyler Harms, and I birded the Lucas Unit of
Stephen's State Forest hoping for goatsuckers. We had several
Whip-poor-wills and at least two different Chuck-will's-widows following
Keith Dyche's earlier directions. Thanks Keith! Chuck-will's-widow was
Iowa bird number 300 for both Tyler and I!

I was happy to hear a Tufted Titmouse singing in our yard this morning
(yard bird #92, which I've been waiting years for) so I took a chance and
tried (for the fourth time) for a Bell's Vireo that Steve Dinsmore had
reported a while back south of Ames. My luck still held: Iowa bird number
301!

Then this evening I scoped Jester Park at Saylorville but the shorebird
numbers were way down. Some Semipalmated and White-rumped Sandpipers and
four Semipalmated Plovers. The Northern Mockingbird is still singing like
crazy from the dead tree just before you drop down to the boat ramp.

I also stopped at the Iowa Arboretum west of Luther on the way home and the
Yellow-crowned Night Heron that Billy Reiter-Marolf reported was still
there. Thanks Billy, that was a new Iowa bird for me too!
