Great Newsletter put out by Carl. The birding community is so blessed with people like Ross Silcock and Denny Thompson who volunteer there time for young people.
Thanks Carl for starting this group up. It seems that there should be a natural partnership formed with the IOU. I am sure that Carl would gladly accept other volunteers as this new venture grows. So glad to have you and Linda back in Iowa. We found 31 species including one bird that was a state lifer for one of our leaders!! Many thanks to Denny Thompson and Ross Silcock (board chair of Iowa Young Birders) for their great leadership and to the parents and grandparents of our young birders who provided transportation and encouragement. Our full trip report can be found here: http://alturl.com/pfr8o and you'll have to check it out to see bird made its way onto Ross's state of Iowa lifelist. Thanks also to the Iowa Ornithologists' Union whose generous grant has allowed us to purchase nice loaner binoculars for young birders to use during field trips and a spotting scope and tripod which gave great looks to some very excited young people! Our next field trip is in Waterloo on August 11. All of our field trips are are open at no cost but advance registration is required.
