My wife has asked me several times lately to help identify a bird that she has
seen and heard on a gravel road near our home where we frequently walk. It has
never appeared when I am with her so we listened to calls of many common birds
and none worked. She did not have a good color description but she said it kind
of fluttered when it flew, its wing shape was like a Killdeer, and it had a
call that was kind of a trill. Still we no identification. Today, while driving
on that road I saw an Upland Sandpiper, a first for our township list. When we
stopped and when it finally flew off both the call and the wing beats helped
her identify the bird.

This is in Blackhawk county on Schenk Road between East Mt Vernon and East
Bennington. The bird has always been in the north half of the mile according to
Sandy.
