Birding has been on the back burner for awhile but my wife encouraged me to
take some time a "GO!"   Target but not expected bird was the Buff-breasted
Sandpiper which I missed during Spring migration.

Arrived at the J & R Sod farm (first time in 4 years I have seen them
irrigating the sod).
Killdeer--numerous
Barn Swallow--numerous
Cliff Swallow 6-7
Northern Rough-winged Swallow 5-10
Northern Flicker 5
Common Grackle 14
European Starlin--numerous
American Robin  0  (a real surprise)
**Western Kingbird 30-35 flycatching all over the place  (largest concentration
I have ever seen in Iowa)
Sodfarm owner 1  Wanted to know what I was looking at--invited me to call
anytime for permission to visit.
Buff-breasted Sandpiper  1  then 2 more  (3:30PM)   7 when I returned at 6:05PM

Other birds of interest
Blue Grosbeak  everywhere almost  11 in the first two hours including attending
young
Bobolink at least one male still strutting his stuff.
Northern Harrier 1 adult male
Great Blue Heron 16  seemed to be flying or sitting everywhere even in non
wetland areas
Grasshopper Sparrow 7

Now for just one of those Western Sandpipers that Jim Forde had this week!

God Bless,
