BIRDERS:

Looking for a fun Sunday bird event with family and friends? Don’t miss the
annual Pelican Festival, Sept. 9, 11 AM-4 PM at the Hawkeye Wildlife Area on
Coralville Reservoir, located between Coralville and Swisher. Come and witness
part of Iowa’s great American White Pelican migration; visit more than 18
booths and exhibits; enjoy presentations about pelicans. bird banding, raptors,
getting started in birding and more; enjoy food and refreshments from the Boy
Scouts. A new addition this year is a silent auction fundraiser to benefit
Iowa Audubon—bid on binoculars, bird art, and many more items, with proceeds
going to Audubon’s bird conservation and education projects. To view a flyer
with more details and a map with directions to the festival site, go to the
following link on the Iowa Audubon website:

Birders with knowledge about pelicans are invited to help staff spotting scopes
for visitors to view and learn about pelicans, and why these magnificent birds
are so common on fall migration in Iowa.

Pelican Festival is co-hosted by Iowa DNR, US Army Corps of Engineers, Iowa
Audubon, Iowa City Bird Club and Johnson County Conservation Board.
