Hi All,

In a trip to visit with family in northeast Iowa today, I did manage to sneak a
little birding in.

In Clayton Co., Turkey Vultures were certainly on the move and I noted nearly
200 individuals between three locations in and around Guttenberg. The
Mississippi River was full of swallows, with Northern Rough-winged (550) and
Trees (400) rounding out the larger numbers. Small numbers of Bank and a few
Cliff were around, but I didn't see a single Barn Swallow. A single Nashville
Warbler calling and foraging outside my high school in Guttenberg was fun to
see and Ring-billed Gull and Double-crested Cormorant numbers were up.

A pair of Eurasian Collared-Doves were feeding outside the feed mill in
Luxemburg in Dubuque Co. on the return trip, my first for this town.

The highlight of the day, perhaps appropriately enough, came at the Field of
Dreams site outside of Dyersville in Dubuque Co., where a pair of RED
CROSSBILLS were calling, flying, and foraging across the property for an
extended period of the time we were present there.
