Hi All, On my return trip from visiting my sister in Missouri over the weekend, I stumbled upon a LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE along US Hwy 63 in Davis Co. this afternoon. The bird was just south of the US 63 / Co Rd. J51 intersection on a power line on the east side of the road. This would be roughly 5-6 miles south of Hwy 2 or ~4.5 miles north of the MO border. It struck me as being a bit out of habitat from where I'd think of finding these guys, as that neck of the woods at least isn't very open and has a lot of timber. There are bits and pieces of good habitat, but nothing quite as open as other areas of southern Iowa or northern Missouri. Perhaps migrant Shrikes aren't quite as picky about habitat? On a side note, I had a Eurasian Collared Dove just east of Ankeny along NE 78th Ave (or Oralabor Rd going east, for those familiar with the area), heading towards Bondurant or Altoona.
