Good evening all. Arrive at Squaw Creek at 9:55AM. Within minutes of arriving at the "jewel weed" spot I saw what I thought might be a female Black-throated Blue but alas no confirmation and it managed to disappear on me. Spent 2 1/2 hours scouring, sitting, sneaking around the 100 yard area where the Black-Throated Blue looking for either the f. or m. but NADA! Took a walk to the bottom of the hill finding lots of woodpeckers and chickadees along with bluejays and numerous noisy squirrels and chipmunks. Only three warbler species--Black and White, Ovenbird (2), and Morning. As I entered the main sighting area I had my fourth warbler (broke into a serious sweat as my first look gave me a subdued colored warbler that seemed like it might be THE female). Disappeared and now I am really frustrated--but it reappeared almost immediately and the nice little white square popped up on the side of the warbler--YES after 7+ years of hoping for this lifer I finally had one. Spent another 1/2 hour looking for the male but I finally gave up knowing I was supposed to be attending the 8th birthday of my grandson in Davenport at 2:00PM (I arrived at 2:35 only to have him tell me that he hadn't missed me yet 'cause his cousins were here and off he went).
Did not run into Art or Dean but found out later that they had not arrived until 4:00PM and that they had seen if within seconds of stepping or of their vehicle. It did appear to me that the cool front may have sent a number of birds south last night. Yes, I am going back tomorrow as I really wish a photo of a BTBW preferably male.
