A beautiful morning started at Lakeside Lab in Dickinson county with archeologists showing the field trip participants one of the oldest musical instruments in North America - a flute made from the bone of a swan about 7,000 years ago! A highlight at Marble Lake was a cooperative Black-throated Green Warbler and a big flock of Franklin's Gulls staging in migration. Bobolinks were pinking flyovers and several Red-breasted Nuthatches were my first of this year.
At Trumbull Lake in Clay county this afternoon there were five Am Avocets, five Caspian Terns and four Buff-breasted Sandpipers among the thousands of individuals using the shallow lake habitat. It sure felt like Fall today! Lee A.
