Hi,
I know that many of you have been to Rattlesnake Springs to see the Piratic
Flycatcher which is still
there as of this morning (20 September). For
those that don't know, this is the second record for this spot, one was
here in September 1996 also.

I am trying to compile a list of all the birders who have traveled over
here to see the Piratic Flycatcher. I want to use that list to make a case
with local businesses, etc. of the value of birding to the local economy.
If you saw the bird I would appreciate hearing from you and getting your
contact information.

Part of the reason for gathering this information is that the National Park
Service is in the process of developing a Rattlesnake Springs Management
Plan. Birders across the country know about Rattlesnake Springs and we
need to convince the park that it needs to be maintained
 in its current
state (or better) for wildlife. I want to develop a list of contacts who
will be kept informed as to the issues and timing of the plan and how to
comment on it when NPS asks for comment. The plan is being drafted and has
not been released to the public but I want to be ready when it does come
out.

If you are interested, please send me your contact information (name,
address and email address) to [email protected]. I promise protecting
Rattlesnake Springs will be the only use of your contact information. And
thank you personally for taking an interest in protecting
 Rattlesnake
Springs!

Thanks.
