Hi All, Sorry for the late posting, but I visited Carney Marsh last evening and spent nearly 2 hours there. The highlights by far were the numbers of sparrows. Several thousand Icterids (mostly RWBLs) were also flying about the area. 4 House Wrens 3 Sedge Wrens 14 Marsh Wrens Aside from a handful of the Marsh Wrens and 1 Sedge Wren, every one of the wrens were in tall grasses or sedge, among (but perhaps not associated with) various sparrow flocks. I had never found/seen/heard that many Marsh Wrens away from cattails before. It was certainly fun to see them skulking about. 42 Gray Catbirds 6 Orange-crowned Warblers 17 Common Yellowthroats 1 Vesper Sparrow (in a mixed flock) 25+ Song Sparrows 11+ Lincoln's Sparrows 75+ Swamp Sparrows (absolutely everywhere) 30+ White-throated Sparrows and yes, my first 4 Dark-eyed Juncos of the fall Danny Akers Ankeny [email protected]
