Since Denny Thompson mentioned a jackrabbit in his recent posting, I thought
I would let those who are interested know that Des Moines Audubon will have
a program on jackrabbits at our October 16 meeting.

JACKRABBITS ON THE EDGE IN IOWA
OCTOBER 16TH PROGRAM BY DR. SUE FAIRBANKS
Meetings of Des Moines Audubon Society begin at 7 p.m. and are held in the
lower level of Westminster Presbyterian Church, which is located at the
corner of Beaver and Franklin Avenues in Des Moines. Parking is available on
the north and west sides of the church and an elevator can be accessed at
the west door. For information about this program, please contact Jane Clark
at [email protected] or 515-223-5047.
Thanks,
Jane Clark

With one exception, it was a rather mundane outing around the lake. The
exception was a White-tailed Jackrabbit that flushed from a small patch of
vegetation along the beach at Oak Grove. It's been years since I've seen a
jackrabbit in Iowa, and would never have expected one at that location.
