Since Denny Thompson mentioned a jackrabbit in his recent posting, I thought I would let those who are interested know that Des Moines Audubon will have a program on jackrabbits at our October 16 meeting.
JACKRABBITS ON THE EDGE IN IOWA OCTOBER 16TH PROGRAM BY DR. SUE FAIRBANKS Meetings of Des Moines Audubon Society begin at 7 p.m. and are held in the lower level of Westminster Presbyterian Church, which is located at the corner of Beaver and Franklin Avenues in Des Moines. The exception was a White-tailed Jackrabbit that flushed from a small patch of vegetation along the beach at Oak Grove. It's been years since I've seen a jackrabbit in Iowa, and would never have expected one at that location.
