This afternoon a very early first winter Glaucous Gull was feeding
voraciously on one of the many carp carcasses at Trumbull Lake in Clay
county. It made the Ring-billed Gulls look small, and a whirlwind of
Franklin's Gulls were dropping in from high above to roost near the shallow
water. At Dan Green Slough there were eight shorebird species including
Dunlin and Long-billed Dowitcher. A flock of 25 Rusty Blackbirds and four
Soras were with a large number of snipe on a mudflat amongst the cattails.
