A day of birding in SE Iowa (Burlington to Keokuk) produced 83 species today. 
The best bird of the day was a juvenile CALIFORNIA GULL on the breakwater above 
the Mississippi River dam in Keokuk. 

Other interesting birds included:

Merlin 
Peregrine falcon 
Long-billed dowitchers
Marsh wren 
Northern mockingbird 
American pipits 
a late Chipping sparrow
Eurasian tree sparrows

Cedar waxwings and American robins were wherever berries were to be found. Big 
misses included Horned and Screech owls, both kinglets, Turkey vultures and 
Bald eagles.
