A birding trip from Burlington to Keokuk today produced 73 species, including 
the following interesting birds:

A late (very late?) GREAT EGRET at the 53rd St. access to the Mississippi River 
SW of Fort Madison (Lee Co.)
Seven late TURKEY VULTURES gliding over Keokuk near the confluence of the Des 
Moines and Mississippi Rivers (Lee Co.)
Two resident PEREGRINE FALCONS on the Great River Bridge at Burlington (Des 
Moines Co.)
A winter resident MERLIN at Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington 
A single DOWITCHER sp. at Trumpeter Marsh north of Montrose (Lee Co.)
Two WILSON'S SNIPES in the marsh at the north end of Montrose 
A photogenic EASTERN SCREECH-OWL in a wood duck box at Heron Bend C.A. north of 
Montrose 
A winter resident WINTER WREN in Cascade Ravine in Burlington 
Two YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Burlington
Two RUSTY BLACKBIRDS at Heron Bend C.A.

We found 18 species of waterfowl including American wigeon, Redhead and Greater 
scaup.
