Sunday's Iowa City CBC produced a record 81 species, surpassing our old
record of 79 set in 1998. We had 18 waterfowl species, which made the
difference between an average count and a great count. Highlights included:

Greater White-fronted Goose (third count record)
Cackling Goose
Trumpeter Swan (second count record)
American Wigeon
American Black Duck
Blue-winged Teal (first count record)
Northern Shoveler
Northern Pintail
Green-winged Teal
Redhead (third count record)
Ring-necked Duck
Bufflehead
Hooded Merganser
Common Loon (first count record) at Lake Macbride
American White Pelican (third count record) above the Coralville Dam
Great Blue Heron
Red-shouldered Hawk (first record since 1966) at Lake Macbride
Merlin at Hawkeye WMA
American Coot
Killdeer
Short-eared Owl at Hawkeye WMA
Northern Saw-whet Owl at Hickory Hill Park
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker
Northern Shrike
Yellow-rumped Warbler at Kent Park
Fox Sparrow
Harris's Sparrow
Eurasian Tree Sparrow

Our biggest miss was Ring-necked Pheasant -- only the second miss in the
61-year history of our count, and the first since 1957. Other notable
misses were Sharp-shinned Hawk and Common Grackle.
