I did a loop today north from Ames to Wright Co. and back, mainly birding from
the car. I tallied 14 species of waterfowl including 20+ Trumpeter Swans at
each of three locales and 2 Am. Black Ducks at Brushy Creek L., a N. Shrike at
Brushy Creek, and hundreds of Snow Buntings on the roads. I also had 2
interesting roadkills on Highway 69 in Hamilton Co. - a Short-eared Owl and a
Lesser Scaup (!).
