IA-Birders:

Yesterday, April 25 I found 3 White-faced Ibis 1/4 mile east of New Albin, in Allamakee County. These were at the fairly recently developed wetland project that was a joint effort by the IA DNR, Fish & Wildlife Service, Corps. of Engineers and Ducks Unlimited.

I was feeling pretty good about adding this species to my county list yesterday, but this evening Betty & I did even better. There were a total of 16 White-faced Ibis at the same location. Also at this excellent birding spot this evening were approx. 2 dozen White-fronted Geese, a Bald Eagle feeding young at a nest in the same nesting territory used when the first Bald Eagles returned to Iowa to nest in the early 1970's, and a wide assortment of waterfowl, wading birds and shorebirds. We also saw 4 Sandhill Cranes where they've been nesting for the past decade or so.

Also, on Wednesday I found a Piping Plover off Fisherman Rd. near the La Crosse, WI airport - species #304 in WI for me. And earlier this evening 3 White-faced Ibis near the Root River, about 25-miles north of the Iowa border, represented MN species #296.

Happy spring and good birding!
