Once upon a time there was a nice wetland NW of Palo along Lewis Bottoms Rd.,
with mud for migrant shorebirds and habitat for Yellow-headed Blackbirds and
Least Bitterns, etc.  But the area was tiled and drained a couple of years ago.
Recent rains have put a little water back into the western section under the
power lines, and at 5 PM tonight Linda Rudolph & I found a late Ross' Goose
(with two Snow Geese) and a lone Am. Avocet.
At Pleasant Creek Lake were Eared & Horned Grebes, two Common Loons, two
Red-breasted Mergansers and a Red-breasted Nuthatch (first time I've used those
two in the same sentence).
