I saw something, two things actually, recently during the extreme cold
which I had not seen before, and was wondering whether other people are
seeing unusual behavior which might be cold-related. I saw a huge flock of
starlings (I think it was, or could have been blackbirds) in town perched
in a row on the apex of rooflines instead of in trees. Was wondering
whether it was warmer there. Also, the same group descended into my
declining maple (which is good for woodpeckers) and were all about looking
like they were eating something - might there be some bug available? Both
were unusual occurrences. Also saw a coopers hawk in my yard in town,
which I have seen before but only when very cold and/or snowy. Stay warm!
