As we start to look for non-Ruby-throats, there is an article that was prepared for the MD-DC Records committee.  It shows [Photo 3.3.2-2:, p 24] some differences between the primary shape of Ruby-throat, Anna's and Black-chinned.

A decent photo of one should show this, so if you ever see a suspicious bird, try to get a good close up of the folded wing.
