Reserves estimation from prospective zone is early step to evaluate project
economic screening and set up next development planning. In the reserves
calculation, many people in oil and gas industry using only RFT data and or
log to determine hydrocarbon contact of reservoir. Actually, hydrocarbon
distribution in the reservoir depend on rock distributions , rock properties
and fluids behaviors.
Rock capillary behaviors of productive zone have determined value of fluid
saturation in the vertical distributions then hydrocarbon in place in that
reservoir can be estimated. In the equilibrium condition the capillary
pressure is depend on porosity, fluid properties, and surface tension.
Therefore, except RFT and Log, capillary pressure information is absolutely
needed to calculate hydrocarbon contact such are water oil contact (WOC),
gas water contact (GWC) and gas oil contact (GOC).
In this presentation will be focused on discussion about basic theory and
information data to estimate hydrocarbon contact. Therefore, reserves
calculation would be more accurate.
