Carbonate reservoirs account for a significant fraction of Indonesia's hydrocarbon
production. Many of the properties of these reservoirs are the direct result of their
depositional fabric, which in turn is a product of the interaction between the
biological and physical realms.
This fieldtrip includes both E-W and N-S traverses across the island chain to examine
differences in build-up style and morphology. We will also look at the third
dimension via cores taken from two of the islands to establish a sequence framework.
Site visits will be prefaced by short classroom sessions. Shore and underwater
deposition will be depicted on these marvelous tropical islands and surrounding
snorkeling spots.
