Modified statement of Superposition (Steno, 1669) : Law of Superposition : the youngest strata are at top in an undisturbed sequence (Weimer, 1975). Jelas kan kalau hukum ini tidak dibuat untuk kondisi lapisan terdeformasi oleh wrench atau kompresi. Tetapi, kita juga tahu bahwa hukum superposisi masih berlaku untuk lapisan2 terdeformasi selama mereka belum mengalami overthrusting yang membolakbalikkan strata : atas ke bawah dan bawah ke atas macam di duplexing atau imbricated structures di mana fault pun sudah parallel-bedding. Sebelum overthrusting, kita masih bisa bedakan urutan lapisan di hangingwall atau footwall, baik oleh wrench maupun compression. Kecuali pada overthrusting yang repetitive beds-nya kompleks atau normal fault besar yang missing strata-nya banyak, maka agak sulit mengurut-urut lapisan melacak law of superposition. salam, awang
