6.0 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Off the Western Coast of Java

Updated: December 02, 2007 02:17 GMT A 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck off the
western coast of Java early on 2 December
at a depth of 32 kilometers (20 miles). The epicenter of the earthquake
was located approximately 78 kilometers (48 miles) southeast of Ujung
Kulon, on the western tip of Java.
The quake was reportedly felt strongly at the Pelabuhan Ratu resort
area, but there are no indications of damage or reports of casualties
as yet. No tsunami warning has been issued.

A 6.2 magnitude earthquake was recorded off the coast of northern
Sumatra on 1 December
at a depth of 35 kilometers (22 miles). The epicenter of the earthquake
was located approximately 100 kilometers (65 miles) west northwest of
Sibolga and 190 kilometers (120 miles)south southwest of Medan.
There are currently no indications of damage in the affected region or
reports of casualties as a result of the earthquake. No tsunami
warnings have been issued.
