Gempa North Sumatra 6.2 Mw 1 Desember 2007 terjadi pada zone perpotongan dextral Batee Fault dengan dextral Mentawai Fault di sekitar Kepulauan Banyak, di antara Simeulue dan Nias.
Gempa SW Java 6.0 Mw 2 Desember 2007 terjadi pada zone perpotongan dextral Ujungkulon Fault dengan sinistral Pelabuhanratu Fault. Perpotongan sesar adalah zone lemah dan terkoyak. Penyesaran batuan (gempa) akibat konvergensi lempeng di kedua wilayah tersebut memilih rupture zone-nya di sesar2 lama. Tidak terjadi tsunami karena magnitude-nya masih kurang kuat dan penyesaran batuannya terjadi dominan secara strike-slip. Kota pantai Pelabuhanratu terletak di jalur Sesar Pelabuhanratu, pasti kota ini akan merasakan goncangan gempa yang berpusat beberapa puluh km di lepas pantainya. Kalau gempa lumayan kuat, wilayah Sukabumi juga biasanya akan merasakan goncangan gempa sebab Sesar Pelabuhanratu berestafet ke Sesar Cimandiri yang melalui wilayah Kabupaten Sukabumi. Sesar Ujungkulon merupakan relay right off-stepping (terusan menurun ke kanan di peta) Sesar Sumatra setelah melalui Selat Sunda. Hubungan duplex dextral off-stepping Sesar Sumatra-Ujungkulon telah membuka Selat Sunda secara pull-apart, sehingga tak mengherankan mengapa di Selat Sunda banyak sesar2 ekstensi berarah utara-selatan.
