We do not run in a sysplex, in fact we only have 1 CPU with 2 LPARs, so I cannot address the original posting. I would have to say however that the CA-11/Datacom migration from the old CA-11 was a bit 'over the top'. For a small site such as mine, I cannot understand why CA had to make the environment so complicated when it worked fine before. The same goes for Dispatch. We went to 6.0, I guess about 2 years ago now, and again went from a fairly simple environment where reports would go to the JES queue to be picked up by Dispatch, to an ENFSPL JES intercept not to mention ENFFSS and ENF, to complicate matters. We actually had more problems with the Dispatch migration than we had with CA-11. To this day we still have at least one outstanding bug for which CA gave us a work around rather than an actual fix. Fortunately, the IDMS part has always been transparent. We really do not have to manage IDMS, which is a good thing, unlike Datacom. As for CA you get the impression that they dream up complications for the sake of it.

I can see the reason, and it's one we are grateful for. 24 x 7
operations. But I also don't like the fact that DATACOM is the
underlying software to make it possible (but then again, I don't
like IDMS being the OLTP for CA-Dispatch either). I'm not sure
why the CMT was not just changed from PDS to PDSE, but without
some sort of DBMS what could have been done with the VSAM JEHF file?
