Because student batch jobs used Waterloo's student
interpreters
...
WIDJET--Waterloo Interactive Debug & Job Entry Terminal.

It used a Series/1 to submit jobs (mostly COBOL -- but some FORTRAN)
to a VM box running an OS1 Job Service.

I used it for 2 of my 4 years at UOW.

In 2nd year, we had heard that the Computer Centre Director was having a tour
of people
from Houston area, to try and sell the product.
In our maturity (or lack thereof), we got a bunch of T-Shirts printed up that
said: “WIDJET Sucks!”, and
ensured we were all wearing them the day of the tour.

He was waaayyy less than impressed.

Unfortunately, I was also a student of his at the time.
Showing up to class was no longer an option -- I tried it once.
I did pass the course, though.
