Yes, even though most people don't bother. When your I/O response time and
throughput are satisfactory, one tends to just leave it as it is.

You can pull RMF reports and look at the Ranks (in the case of an IBM ESS)
and see which MVS logical volumes are mapped to them. You should ensure
that critical Data sets that are very I/O intensive are also properly
placed on the back end.
