I know there has been discussion in the past regarding whether SRS or STOP-X37
are needed anymore considering the latest SMS functionality.

Strictly speaking SMS can do what SRS can do. But I have worked with SRS since
1996 and have these observations.

1) SRS's rule language is easier to use than ACS routines. I like the
tracing that SRS can perform. It can do both ACS and SRS tracing.
Tracing is turned on by including the DD statement //ACCTRACE. ACS
tracing requires a little more work, but now much.

2) And if something isn't working correctly simply add the //ACCIGN DD
statement to the JCL and SRS is out of the picture.

3) SRS's rules can dynamically add secordary space like SMS. But in addtion it
can alter the secondary allocation after x number of extents.

4) Like SMS, SRS can reduce the primary and secondary space request to avoid
JCL errors due to space unavailable.

5) And like SMS, SRS can dynamically add volumes. Prior to the DVC of SMS, one
had to be aware of fact that additional volumes in SMS
meant taking up room in the catalog record.

The ACC part of ACC/SRS has some very good features too.

1) It can override JCL parameters. At my current job, BLKSIZE was
a combination of 3350, 3380, 3390, factor of 10 of the LRECL, and
sometimes no blocking. The programming staff refused to alter
their JCL. With the ACC part of ACC/SRS now everything uses
BLKSIZE=0 regardless of what is coded in the JCL. And as was
our case, those odd-ball programs that had to have a certain
blocksize, can be accomodated with ACC/SRS's rule language.
This feature alone drove down our DASD utilization and reduced
    CPU and runtime.

2) The pooling capabilities of ACC allow for picking volumes based on
different criteria, max space, least extents on volume, best fit,
response time, etc. One can also force identified data sets from
being allocated on the same volume.

I don't work for DTS software, but like I said I've used ACC/SRS for several
years and I think it is great!
The product works right out of the box and I have been able to eliminate X37
type abends in my
last three places of employment with very little or no adverse effects.
Being a small shop the yearly
maintenance isn't that much. But even it were, I would still prefer to have
ACC/SRS and I
would find other places to cut the budget, MHO for what it's woth, euros or
cents!
