Very rarely; only for critical system maintenance such as a new box or
operating system (2.8 > 1.4). Once when the UPS failed.

Once every six months or so on the average.

Strategic direction is continuous operation with only one bored operator
dealing with communications problems and refilling the tape ACL's. We
have talked about training our operators, but we still have a 'lights
out' mindset. And, IPL's have always been part of a larger project that
involves several sysprog level players anyway.

Primary motivation is competitive pressure.

z/os, z/os.e 1.4 on a z890-350 with only application: a mission critical
7x24x365.25 online. Batch window is one hour. We don't have a printer.
All tape is output only. Outage window is two hours once a week, but
still counted against our uptime measurements.

Subject: IPL periodicity

Out of curiosity, how often and for what reasons do you IPL your z/OS
systems?
