I have heard that at some point in time, an IBM official said something
like:

"Standards? We don't have to follow standards, we set standards."

I have also heard it attributed to Bill Gates, but I think it predates
Micro$oft.

Does anybody (Sir Lynn?) have a definitive reference to:

If someone in IBM actually said this?
Who said it?
When/where was it said?
Is this the correct wording? If not, what is?
