The MEDIAx value in IEC705I is strictly down to OPEN processing and the information it gets back from the hardware in response to the CCWs it issues to the drive. For IBM drives you should expect to see a MEDIAx value in the range from 1 thru 8 for 3480/3490/3590/3592 drives.
