Hello list,
With the recent discussion (regarding "easy" questions) in mind,
hopefully this type of question will be forgiven.
I would like to know your experience/opinions on how to set up an
environment for backing up your DASD storage (i.e. syncing data
between two seperate DASD arrays) over an IP network - be it on-
line or during specified time windows. Is it possible at all ?
Any other means (dedicated fiber etc.) are, unfortunately,
currently excluded. Presume there is a spare mainframe (and a spare
DASD storage) and the only access to it is over IP.
I would greatly appreciate if you shared your experience or at the
very least directed me to the right solution.
Maciek,
Yes it is possible. Depends on copy technique you can use.
It have to be some kind of non-synchronous copy (PPRC-XD, HARC, XRC,
Global Mirror).
Caution: spare mainframe means 'spare' software fee!
Each of mentioned methods, except XRC does not require spare machine to
be powered on.
HTH i pozdrowienia
