Thanks you all for your suggestions. The 17 limit of the dsname in the tape dataset label is not a problem in this particular case, because all the datasets have names whose lenght is equal or shorter than 17 characters (so the complete name is indeed stored in the tape label).
I will evaluate the possiblities you mentionned.
