I think it still 'works' but maybe not seen as much needed.  Maybe it can
still be used to present 'one face' to the world or maybe as a 'dmz' for the
other hosts.  Then again, with DVIPA, anyone can be that 'one face.'

I know what they do.
I have worked with them for 20 years, but not as a network person.
What I haven't done is work with them under TCP/IP.

Does the CMC 'work' or does it go away when TCP/IP comes in?
