Can't see how the z/990 exploitation would affect things - don't recall seeing any lower level tolerations when I did it. That said, if you are planning to introduce "foreign" systems into an important 'plex, I'd be seriously looking at setting up a testplex for it, and keep it totally isolated from your important systems.
