For local search I favor X1 http://www.x1.com/ while not free it is fast, capable, and support all the mentioned document formats and important to me both Eudora and Outlook. I have found the ability to get instant search of years worth of email archives, manuals, and documents is something I would never do without again.
A limited version of X1 (no Eudora support) was purchased by Yahoo and is the basis for Yahoo Desktop Search http://desktop.yahoo.com/ which is pretty good and free.
