z/OS 1.7 allows for lower case __passwords__, not __userids__.
The only way that I know of to do this is to use the ICHEINTY macro.
This requires you to write an APF authorized program. There is no way
that I know of to do this with any supplied program or command.
John, don't tell him about ICHEINTY. With the amount of RACF proficiency
displayed in the postings, this would be like giving a loaded gun to a
four-year-old.
Disclaimer: nothing personal, rather general observation
That's quite common, that more or less knowledgable folks are trying to
construct laser cannon to kill a fly.
This is quite good example: ControlM installation and lowercase userid
definition, ICHEINTY etc.
The goal is obviously typical: product installation. For sure it was
done many times by another customers. For sure (IMHO) it does not
require serious system modifications.
From the other hand there is a problem to solve: lowercase userid.
Something absolutely untypical, weird and (almost) impossible to achieve
in z/OS, or at least very dangerous.
IMHO the problem comes from documentation misunderstanding (nevermind -
due to documentation vagueness or user fault).
However what is amazing, there are advices how to construct the laser
cannon, instead of simple but wise "use folded newspaper". Remember: the
goal is to install ControlM, not to create lowercase userid. However
thread author asked about lowercase useid, but he really needed help to
install ControlM. He didn't express it, maybe even didn't realised it,
nevermind.
Remember "supervisor state and CICS application program thread" ? It was
very similar situation. Supervisor state was not needed and didn't
solved the real problem.
IMHO we should pay attention to the real nature of the problem, not
literally the question asked.
