When I last looked at the microfiche, AFAIR the maximum buffers QSAM would take advantage of with a single EXCP was either 29 or 30. I ran various tests at that time, and found that more buffers had no benefit. Of course, that was some time ago, so QSAM could be taking advantage of some hardware improvements, but I doubt anyone would have rewritten QSAM.
