An update on the question posed below:

Upon further investigation I found that there were tapes available in
the HSM DAILY backup pools. When HSM used these tapes then the
dismount/mount situation occurred. If HSM pulled in a SCRATCH tape from
the SCRATCH pool (as should be the case) the tape stayed mounted until
the tape was full or the backup task had completed.

I have now recycled the tapes in the DAILY backup pools and the
situation is resolved.

Subject: HSM keeps demounting and remounting tapes during autobackup

I have a situation where HSM will happily start autobackup with
MAXBACKUPTASKS equal to 4 but then after a while will demount the tapes
it is using only to reload them almost immediately to do further backup.
This happens regularly throughout autobackup but it only happens on the
TEST system....the PRODUCTION system is fine..the tapes stay mounted
until they are full. I have checked the SETSYS parameters for the two
systems are there is no obvious reason for this as all the backup
parameters are the same.

EG The following message is issued and then the tape M01051 is
dismounted and not long after (about a minute) HSM requests the same
tape to be mounted again.

IEC205I SYS00427,HSMTEST,HSMTEST,FILESEQ=0001, COMPLETE VOLUME LIST

DSN=HSM.BACKTAPE.DATASET,VOLS=M01051,TOTALBLOCKS=49061

Any ideas?
