This is the real response to a post I saw a few days ago suggesting that one of the other highly knowledgeable posters write a book about something (can't remember now; might have been Assembler). I volunteered as principal technical proofreader for Bob Johnson's book on DASD about 15 years, and spent an enormous amount of time with ZERO compensation. Bob and one of his sons, the authors, spent far more time than I in their authoring of it. They received all the royalties. I have thought about writing a computer book myself, but I don't really want to spend half a year on it and be paid about $0.50 per hour. The potential market is too rarefied, and no money to be made, with mainframe books unless the price is outrageously high, as in the example above.
