ITYM z/OS Unix System Services: it depends on the applications, the
workload, etc. Unix System Services has the advantage of better
integration with the MVS workload; it has the disadvantage that it is
EBCDIC and most of the rest of the Unix world is ASCII or character
sets derived from ASCII.

Linux doesn't run on z/OS. You can run it directly on an LPAR or under
z/VM. Either way you can concurrently run Linux images and MVS images
on the same machine. Whether that is desirable depends on your
projected application mix and workload.

One factor to consider is whether you have the personnel and training
budget for whatever options you are considering. Another factor is
that an IFL is less expensive than a general purpose processor on the
same box.
