It seems really unlikely that anyone would write their own SMF type 89
records (especially IBM). But perhaps you know something I don't.  SMF 89
records are not written by applications. They are written by SMF. Only by
SMF.  SMF 89 subtype 2 records (which is what is really being talked about
in the SCRT discussion) are written by SMF based on information associated
with the product registration service (IFAEDREG). SMF 89 subtype 1 records
are written by SMF based on information provided by applications using
IFAUSAGE.
