LNKLST UPDATE is never safe no matter what you do.
The DELAY sub-keyword of LNKLST UPDATE might help to reduce the exposure.
It will in no way eliminate it, any more than you can guarantee the
wall-clock elapsed-time of a specific piece of code.

and 1.11 books, albeit not overly descriptive.
