Barry Merrill wrote [probably also meaning to point his
reply-to field to IBM-MAIN]:
I'm hard pressed to ever want to BROWSE anything!
I could not live without the EXCLUDE ALL, EXCLUDE 'text',
FIND 'text' ALL, and similar display commands to see
only the text of interest when diagnosing problems,
especially in a large joblog or syslog analysis.
And an occasional DELETE ALL NX when I need to delete
multiple lines.
Much easier and faster than multiple FINDs or SCROLLs,
or individual line-command Deletes!
But EXCLUDE is only supported under EDIT.
Not so. It is supported under VIEW.
I am somewhat surprised with the number of MXG users who
have never learned about the EXCLUDE command; once
I show them how over the phone, they become believers.
On the other hand, more MXG support calls now are from
clerk-coders who run the daily job, and not from the
real MXG guru systems programmers who actually analyze
the MXG data!
Well, I don't know what an MXG user is, but I agree that
few people know about many recent enhancements to ISPF
edit / view. Or DSLIST. Or many other features.
And management is not paying for update classes. "If you
learned ISPF 15 years ago, you're current enough" kind
of attitude.
I think one of my most well-spent days was the day I
went completely thru the IBM tutorial and learned all
of the commands and how to use them.

Yes. And when was that? What release of ISPF?
Have you learned about these new commands:
* ACTIONS
* CMDE
* CUATTR
* CUT
* EPDF
* FKA
* PASTE
* RETF
* RETP
* SCRNAME
* START
* SYSNAME
* UNDO
* USERID
* ZKEYS
to name a few
Have you learned about the enhancements to these commands:
* COPY / MOVE / REPLACE - specify dsn in command
* FLIP
* HIDE
* SPLIT
* SWAP
Most people don't know about the extensive enhancements
to DSLIST (3.4), and so on.
Take the tutorials, read the docs, or (ta-dah!) take
a class! Check out our "ISPF Update" class; two days
and you're up to speed on the new features (including
some older features you may have missed before);
