I wouldn't compress a 50 CYL dataset just for compressions sake. If it was being read by all and sundry with no updates then I'd load it into Hiperbatch. I've never looked at compression to save space. I've always viewed it as an IO reduction technique. So no, I would not compress datasets regardless of size. What is the objective of compressing the dataset?
