In the CICS Application Programmers Guide  it shows how to write to
SPOOL directly. There's pluses and  minuses. One group found it useful
in that they could specify FORMDEF,  PAGEDEF to do the AFP stuff that
they were used to. Another group didn't  like it and were just doing text 
reports so we ended up using the LUMAP to  transmogrify IP to VTAM. The 
printers have gotten smarter and can service just about  any request-properly 
configured.
